Many adult children in Georgia have parents who reside full time in assisted living centers. Even those who are able to visit their parents regularly are not always able to observe (as closely as they would like) the type of care their parents are receiving. A situation at a nursing home in another state has left one man’s daughter, who also happens to be a nurse, angry and suspecting abuse.
The woman’s sister apparently contacted her after visiting their father on a recent Sunday evening. The man was reportedly suffering from a high fever, resulting in a trip to the hospital the following day. Hospital workers say they were absolutely shocked and horrified at the man’s condition when he arrived.
The patient is said to have had gaping wounds on various parts of his body and a post-surgery wound with bandages marked with a date from early October. The wound (from an amputation surgery) contained maggots. The woman said even police vomited when they saw it, and that in all her years as a nurse, her father’s condition is the worse case of alleged abuse and medical neglect she has ever seen.
This man’s situation has since been reported to appropriate authorities who have launched a full investigation into the matter. Nursing home negligence is an ongoing problem in many parts of Georgia as well.
